“And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on
him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering,
and to conquer.” Revelation 6:2
Of
all the creations that God made, humans are the only ones with free
choice. That said, each and every one of
us is serving one of two masters; God or Satan.
This may seem like a gross generalization but the scriptures plainly bare
it out. Within each of our hearts is an
influencing nature that rules over us.
The nature of carnality or the nature of the Spirit. Good or Evil.
Jesus or the Devil. Righteousness
or unrighteousness. Christ can sit on
the throne of our heart with the power of the Holy Ghost directing our lives,
or the devil can sit there and destroy our lives. The simple fact is, we are whom we choose to
serve.
The
story of King Josiah is my personal favorite in the Old Testament (2 Kings 22
and 23). He took the throne at eight
years old; having no righteous example around him, inheriting a kingdom that
was polluted with unrighteousness. In addition,
his grandfather was a sinner, his father was a sinner; he had no one to look to
or to guide him in the ways of God.
Thankfully, God is merciful. He
has made a way so that we can live without sin and he reaches out to us,
calling us, so that we can come out of sin.
While Josiah was cleaning out the temple, a holy place that had been
reduced to nothing more than a storage unit.
He discovered the greatest treasure of all; the book of the law. He had found the Word of God, and began to
read it. The Word convicted him and he
realized that he was a servant of sin and not of God. Moreover, because of him his Kingdom was
remaining in this state of sin.
Therefore, he made a decision that he was going to serve God, repented,
and had a revolution within that produced a revolution without. When God took the throne of his heart, he
took the throne of Josiah’s life, Josiah’s kingdom. Josiah made some serious changes within his life
and his country. He began to tear down
idols, burned down groves, even went so far as to dig up the bones of the false
prophets and burn them. He committed
himself to serve God and God blessed him.
He understood that though he was king, there was another who ruled over
him. Before the Word, it was Satan, and
after, it was God. The revelation from
the Word of God lead to a revolution within the heart of Josiah.
We
all come into this world in need of a revolution within. The heart of man is desperately wicked, and
hopelessly lost in carnality. The devil
wants you to think that you are in control, and you are your own; but nothing
could be further from the truth. We have to be converted and sanctified. Once you have become sanctified, only then do
you truly realize the bondage and the blindness that Satan had you in. The Word of God will work in our lives,
revealing to us that we need a revolution.
That we need a conqueror. A
Savior who can come in and throw out Satan.
The King of Kings and Lord of Lords, sitting on the throne of our heart. How great the love of God toward us, that we
should have the opportunity to love him, to choose him, and accept us. How great the love of God toward us, that he
would allow such a condition to mortal man.
