Grandma’s Proverbs

 

The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.”- Proverbs 10:21

 

After my grandmother’s recent passing, this was compiled from her Bible.  Mostly, the authors unknown.   

 

·       There are so many hills to climb upward, I often am longing for rest. But He who affords me my pathway, knows what is needful and best.

·       Don’t think about where you were yesterday. Don’t think about today; but think about where you are going.

·       If you cannot change your situation, change your attitude.

·       His hand in mine; that’s all I need to know.

·       There is no blessing without a sacrifice, and there is no sacrifice that God doesn’t bless. BA Hobby 1981.

·       Sanctification is not an option; it is a necessity!

·       You must want a good thing enough to pursue it.

·       I am persuaded

·       I will follow where He leadeth

·       Always do the best you can.

·       When we find we have nothing left but God, we find God is enough.

·       Without a test we will have no testimony.

·       Keep your eyes on Jesus.

·       If you can’t sleep try this: stop counting sheep and talk to the Shephard.

·       Help young people to make right choices.

·       Make right sacrifice for church family.

·       He gave us eyes to see with, and lips that we might tell, how great is God Almighty, who has done all things well.

·       Never kick a man when he’s down, he may get up.

·       Serve God. The salary may be low sometimes, but the retirement is out of this world.

·       Advice is like snow, the softer it falls the longer it lasts.

·       In order to have a victory, there must be a battle.

·       Do not pray for an easy life; pray to be a strong person.

·       Nobodycan face today’s challenges if he is carrying yesterday’s burdens and suffering from last year’s heartache. 

·       I won’t question trials that bring me to my knees; that’s the way of telling me “He loves me”.

·       There is no right way to do wrong.

·       If your day is hemmed with prayer, it is less likely to ravel.

·        Silence cannot be misquoted.

·       If you can’t have the best of everything, then make the best of everything you have.

·       Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.

·       He who refuses understanding burns the bridge over which he may someday need to pass.

·       One who repeats a rumor is as guilty as the one who started it.

·       Love holds hearts together when minds disagree.

·       God is not looking for our ability, but our availability.

·       Life is not fair, but God is good.

·       Dear God: treat me tomorrow as I have treated my fellow man today.

·       I don’t need to understand; I just need to hold His hand.

·       If you want to do something behind a person’s back; pat it.

·       Humility is a strange thing: the minute you say you have it, you’ve lost it.

·       Worry is the interest you pay on the troubles you borrow.

·       A well-adjusted person is one who can enjoy the scenery while going on a detour.

·       Perseverance is to fail 19 times and win the 20th time.

·       A man is rich according to what he is; not according to what he has.

·       It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.

·       People trying to get even never get ahead.

·       It’s not important what God takes away from you. The important thing is what you do with what is left.

·       He who thinks by the inch, and talks by the yard; should be kicked by the foot.

·       God has no problems for our lives, only plans.

·       Help me to be a repairer of the breach.

·       Callie (husband) said before he passed away, “whether I go or stay, I am a winner”

·       Lord give me the strength I need to carry on, I’m going on toward the mark toward my goal, so many lives depend on what I do, give me the strength, I’m going on for you.

·       When it is really faith you are no longer in control. God is!

·       Is prayer your spare tire or your steering wheel?

·       If what you are about to say is not true, kind and needful, don’t say it.

·       Sinners see a hopeless end, but Christians see an endless hope.

·       God never takes anything away from us without giving something back.

·       I’m not God’s child because I’m somebody, but I’m somebody because I’m God’s child.
