Discovering the Mystery

“He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.” -Job 26:7

Our existence is cloak in a constant state of mystery.  We are continually striving to understand the world around us, and beyond us.  Discovery is embedded in the fiber of humanity, and we are all slave to the search.  We search for answers to the physical and metaphysical, endeavoring to discover truths in this world and the world to come.  Truths we can trust in, we can build on.

Our continual journey to further discovery has brought us to a technological age that allows us to see into galaxies, split atoms, walk the moon, and explore the deep.  We understand so much more than we used to, and like generations before us, our understanding has led many to conclude that without proof there is no trust.  Today, thousands of years later, we understand that gravity keeps the sky above our head.  We understand that gravity keeps the earth “hanging upon nothing.”  Science, innovation, and technology fueled by our desire for discovery has brought us concrete proof of this.  Proof that we now trust in.  We trust it so much that we will send a man into space knowing he can return.  We trust in it so much that we will haphazardly board a plane for takeoff, expecting it to return to Earth (in one piece).  Our kids may weep when their brand-new balloon slips through their fingers, but we don’t (partly because, most parents hate balloons), because we know eventually the balloon is coming back down.   The mystery has been revealed.  In Job’s the day he was stating a mystery, that humanity would later discover, prove, and trust in.  There are many mystery’s in the Bible that humanity would late discover and trust in.  There some that humanity is convinced they have discovered, proved erroneous, and do not trust in; and there are many that humanity will never prove, and may never trust in.  Through all our striving and advancements; what is far more paramount than any temporal discovery is the message that Job was trying to covey.  The great mystery is not finding the why in the creation but finding the Creator himself.  This discovery has no proof which can be gained by logic or reason; but only through the merit of Jesus Christ.  When you accept that faith is the answer, and not just another question; then you have made one giant leap to discovering the greatest mystery.

What is this great mystery?  The Bible tells us “Christ in you the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).”  The one who stretched the north, and hanged the earth on nothing is the one who wants to live within your heart.  He will teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance.  He will reveal the mystery of the spiritual, and help you understand the physical.  It’s important to understand this world around us, but in the grand scheme of things it is like kids trying to understand a sandbox.  Far greater to discover the mystery of Godliness, possess the Spirit of holiness, and have Christ in you the hope of glory.  The proof you can trust in, build on, even if you cannot see it.
